“You found parts of me I didn’t know existed and in you I found a love I no longer believed was real.”

He asked me to be his wife while flying over the Puget Sound on our way to Victoria, BC in a tiny Kenmore Air seaplane. We decided to stay true to ourselves and exchange vows, privately, on top of a “mountain” overlooking the Cascades on a beautiful summer afternoon. We asked a photographer who is a family friend to join us, picked a day he was available, and started planning the details. I made an appointment at BHLDN and took a break from the office to pick my dress.

On Wednesday morning, August 9th, the flowers were delivered to our doorstep. We packed up our fancies and headed toward Rattlesnake Ledge to meet our photographer and start the hike to the top. At the top, we found a little space to change into our wedding duds – separately, so we could do a little reveal! We climbed up on the ledge, exchanged vows and rings, kissed, and voila! I have a husband!!!

Just one week after our beautiful day, an amazing photographer friend was in town from Vegas and wanted us to help her out with a styled shoot. Duh! Drew and I are both huge suckers for beautiful photos, especially nature photos. This was a no brainer. We met her at Snoqualmie Falls, hopped the fence past the No Trespassing sign, changed into snazzy wedding attire right out in the open, and the rest is history.

My husband makes a pretty good model.

Before exchanging vows, we snuck in an engagement photo session as well. While we were in Colorado, we took advantage of the beautiful landscape, and were able to have our love captured. Honestly, while having three sessions in a matter of a month was daunting for Drew, he ended up feeling grateful for how romantic it was. It was just another moment highlighting how much we love each other and how deep our love runs. And, seriously, Stephanie, is incredibly talented in so many ways.

I love that our intimate moment was just that, intimate. We were focused only on each other and the commitment we were making. Our first conversations about getting married years ago included this type of “wedding” and I’m so glad we did it.

A year later, we hiked to the top again, to kiss and remind ourselves why we chose one another. After the year we had, there are so many more reasons!

Birthday Fun

Happy Summer!! Can you believe June’s already ending?! Why does Summer fly by – other than the obvious “time flies when you’re having fun” reason?

This birthday has been nothing short of the BEST! Drew told me he was planning a camping weekend and surprising me with the location. That would have been enough to make it an amazing celebration! Turns out there was no camping whatsoever! He gave me just enough hints to allow me to pack. That’s the toughest part, right?! We left early Friday, drove all of 5 minutes to Kenmore Air on South Lake Union where he checked us in for our intimate flight on a seaplane to Victoria, British Columbia!

Flights over the Puget Sound are breath taking! If you ever have the chance to hop on a Kenmore Air seaplane, DO IT! As if I wasn’t surprised enough already, while we were flying, Drew passed me the sweetest note wishing me a happy birthday and telling me what our relationship means to him. As soon as I finished reading, there he was with a ring asking me to be his wife! Eeeeeeek! Yes, yes, yes.

Once we landed in Victoria, we walked to the Chateau Victoria where we stayed for the weekend. Then the surprises continued! First, a couples massage! Yes, please! After we got cleaned up, we headed out to explore the adorable city. We grabbed a yummy seafood lunch at Red Fish, Blue Fish (don’t worry, the line moves fairly quick!). We walked to the Fisherman’s Wharf where there are adorable floating restaurants and houses. Such a cute little place! There’s even a floating sushi restaurant! Then, we enjoyed some beers while we listened to music at a venue set up to celebrate Canada’s 150th year! Canada Day is July 1st, so there’s a lot going on to celebrate Canada 150!

Sundays in the Neighborhood

Don’t you just love a laid back Sunday?! It’s my favorite. We usually take our time waking up and getting out of bed. Then we either make a delicious and nutritious breakfast at home or venture to a local cafe we haven’t tried yet. In our neighborhood, literally 2 blocks away, is a Sunday market (Fremont Sunday Market) that is open every Sunday year-round! It’s a mix between a flea market and a farmer’s market. I love it! I could (and have) spend hours looking at everything! I could also spend a fortune. My favorite thing to pick up is a fresh bouquet of flowers. It’s something I LOVE about Seattle. There are flower farms galore, so the price of a gorgeous bouquet is suuuper cheap. Continue reading
